we're either destroying ourselves or discovering the words for color
This blurb has read “text forthcoming” for almost a year and a half. In a strange way, leaving such text for the blurb for so long for this piece could be thought of as text in service of the concept as a whole. I could make the argument that a placeholder speaks both to what hasn’t come and what is currently missing; it is text that means exactly nothing but says so with excitement and a vision towards a future. And to leave it past its due, however, is to create a static element, with no excitement, from something that is meant to be dynamic and hold truth. It is to draw the statement towards oneself and let it slowly crash into the docks of expectation.
A placeholder left too long is a bit like a “store closing sale” sign in the window of that mattress store below your apartment that has been there since you moved in.
It’s a bit hard to write about a piece after the honeymoon of falling in love with its creation. I know I look back at this piece and see the need to minimize, find intent, and not waiver to strive for what I love; to take risk in the creation of a world view.
I wrote some brief notes on this piece that you can download here. They never got fully edited but it seems silly to have them sitting in a Google docs waiting to be heard.
